About
About the Band
The Carroll Middle School Band is a Texas UIL CC band averaging 250 students in grades 6-8 in the Southlake Carroll Independent School District. Approximately 120 students start band in the sixth grade at Durham Intermediate School in homogeneous classes – flute, double reed (oboe & bassoon), clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, low brass (euphonium & tuba) and percussion. The 150 seventh and eighth grade students are placed in one of three performing groups – Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Concert Band. All bands meet every day for 50 minutes. Additionally, students attend one sectional rehearsal outside of the regular school day each week. Private lessons are highly encouraged and are available during the school day as well as before and after school.
All of the Carroll Middle School Bands perform at events and concerts throughout the year. All 7th and 8th grade band students perform at pep rallies, specific football games, Fine Arts Night, Winter Concert, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest and Spring Concert. In addition, the Wind Ensemble also performs in the Carroll MS Veterans Day Ceremony, the Durham Winter & Spring Assemblies and other band contests in the North Texas area. The Durham 6th grade band classes perform as homogeneous groups at the Fall Preview and as a band for the Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and one other contest in the DFW area. The Carroll MS & Durham IS Band organizes their own Solo & Ensemble Contest in March.
